Research by academics in Denmark found that chiefs who live in the vicinity of their workplace can improve the performance of their company.
Companies whose chiefs live within 5 kilometers (3 miles) of their headquarters report better workplace conditions and higher productivity, according to a recent paper based on data from Denmark.
The study by three academics looked at thousands of Danish firms and the locations of their chief executive officers. They quantified workplace quality by looking at “administrative remarks” for poor conditions filed by the Danish Working Environment Authority between 2008 to 2015, and used surveys of employees to get a sense of how they thought about where they worked.
