Wayne County deputies treated at hospital after Dudley shooting

Non-stop flights from RDU to Paris resume for 1st time since pandemic

Three Wayne County deputies were shot while serving an involuntary commitment warrant in Dudley on Monday morning.

yeah absolutely sorry deputies responded to the address right here on Errington Bridge around 10 30 this morning. They were serving I. V. C. Papers. Involuntary commitment papers um as they were responding the three deputies were fired upon by an individual inside of the residents. All three deputies sustained injuries uh from the gunfire, gunshot wounds. One of them is being treated at Wayne unC here in Goldsboro. The other two were airlifted to violent TCU medical um no condition update right now on those three individuals and we're not releasing their names right now either. The suspect is still inside the residence. It's still an active scene. We've got swat teams um on site as well as as you guys have seen responders from all kinds of surrounding agencies So we really appreciate that of course at this time our thoughts and prayers are with the individuals with our department our office sheriff's office and their families as they deal with their injuries. I'm sorry I don't have that information right now. We'll work to have that. But I just know that they were working on it. No idea on the suspect right now. Male male dangerous or difficult to serve risk and they go in. Yeah I mean of course I'm impartial to our sheriff's office deputies. They do this stuff every day. I mean it really is an everyday occurrence that they're serving either warrants or or papers or you know evictions. This is something that that happens every day. So nobody expects to go into work and and be shot at. But this is what our men and women do on a daily basis, unfortunate that this one turned out this way. So I do not have an uh, any information on the type of weapon right now. This suspect is this person not to have any other weapons inside the residence. Because we did see the squad. Yeah, they came and they left. That was honestly just part of the, you know, basically when something like this happens with an officer down agencies from all around start coming. Uh, and so we've got a lot of manpower from local as well as state agencies. So that was just part of that. And we just have them staged here in case anything happens and we need their assistance. I'm sorry. Yeah. Not that we know of right now. This kind of surprise. Yeah, Yeah. Mental health. It was just three deputies on this one. So what's going? Yeah, the suspect is still in the house at this time. So of course the areas all cordoned off right now, as you can see, we've got our partners with the north Carolina State, how we patrol their helicopter units up so that we can make sure that we keep the scene secure. But the individual is still inside at this time. Would you share it? Not that not that we know of right now. I mean, the fact that we only sent three, uh, you know, that that's kind of a normal response for us. Uh, And so if if we thought there was any extra risk there would have been a different response. But you know there was nothing out of the ordinary with this response. It's it's something that deputies do, you know on a daily weekly basis. Sarah the information, nothing right now. We haven't released their names or information and we don't have any status updates yet. The only thing is that you got flown to violent and once here in town. You know, if they were wearing, I do that. That that typically is our standard our standard protocol. As you can see a lot of our deputies are going in and in and out have the uniform with you know body armor on. So that is typical if they were serving papers they would be wearing that. I don't know what one of the others said. You can't talk about filed. What we can you say that this person, what is this person? I can't speculate on that right now. I mean an I. V. C. Is an involuntary commitment. So there had to be basis for that to be filed. But I can't go into any specifics as to why it was being filed on this individual. You name it. Yeah. So we of course Wayne County Sheriff's Office, we've got Goldsboro Police, I believe we've got officers from just about every municipal police force here. Uh We did bring in some outside agencies from surrounding counties to help run calls um for our deputies Since they're here, we've got the Highway Patrol, we've got FBI on scene. And I think that's a pretty good round up of who all we have. Well, the sheriff has and and some of his team are are at hospitals as well. The sheriff has been on scene today as well to uh and so he's been a little bit busy. Everybody good. Um I don't have anything else right now. I will do my best to keep you all updated as I learn more. Like I said, it's gonna be a little while we think. Um And so I'll rally you guys up if y'all are still here.
